Oilers trade Jokinen to Kings for Cammalleri
    November 14, 2017

The Los Angeles Kings acquired forward Jussi Jokinen from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Michael Cammalleri on Tuesday.

Jokinen, 34, has played in 14 games with the Oilers this year, recording an assist and two penalty minutes. He carries a $1.1 million cap hit.

Cammalleri, 35, appeared in 15 games this season with the Kings, scoring three goals while adding four assists and a plus-1 rating. He carries a $1 million cap hit.

The 6-0, 191-pound Jokinen played for the Oilers, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars during his 13-year NHL career. In 905 regular-season games he has posted 547 points, a plus-2 rating and 367 penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Cammalleri has 620 points, 411 penalty minutes and a minus-50 rating in 855 career NHL games.

Habs claim veteran G Niemi off waivers
    November 14, 2017

The Montreal Canadiens claimed goaltender Antti Niemi off waivers on Tuesday.

The Canadiens' goaltending carousel has been in constant rotation this season as former Hart and Vezina Trophy winner Carey Price has been nursing a lower-body injury while backup Al Montoya is sidelined due to a concussion.

Rookie Charlie Lindgren (3-1-0, 1.24 goals-against average) has fared well in their absence, but Montreal general manager Marc Bergevin saw an opportunity with Niemi.

"We had a chance to claim an experienced goaltender off waivers. We wanted to protect the organization," Bergevin said Tuesday.

Niemi has struggled this season, however, posting an 0-4-0 mark in five appearances with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers. The 34-year-old owns a 227-129-51 mark with 35 shutouts, a 2.52 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 428 career regular-season games with the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Penguins and Panthers.

As Chicago's goaltender during the 2010 playoffs, he helped the Blackhawks win their first Stanley Cup since 1961 by going 16-6 with two shutouts.

Oilers get Mike Cammalleri from Kings for Jussi Jokinen
    November 14, 2017

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Kings traded Mike Cammalleri to the Edmonton Oilers for Jussi Jokinen in a swap of veteran forwards on Tuesday night.

Cammalleri's second career stint with the Kings lasted just 15 games. After signing a $1 million, one-year deal last summer to return to the club that drafted him in 2001, the 35-year-old veteran found himself stuck in a depth role early in the season, even sitting as a scratch for two games.

Cammalleri has three goals and four assists this season, his 15th NHL campaign. He has scored at least 19 goals in nine of those seasons.

''I don't think he enjoyed the role that he was in, by any means,'' said Kings general manager Rob Blake, who declined to say whether Cammalleri requested a trade. ''I won't tell you a lot about our conversation, but what I will tell you is we came to the conclusion that it wasn't going the direction he wanted it to.''

The 34-year-old Jokinen has one assist in 14 games with Edmonton this season after signing a one-year deal as a free agent in July. The steady veteran is joining his seventh NHL franchise with the Kings, who expect to use him as a depth forward with faceoff skills and a solid two-way game.

''He's been a very reliable player over his career, and I think that will bring a little stability to our lineup,'' Blake said. ''He can do a lot of different things for us.''

The Pacific Division-leading Kings are off to a strong start despite the injury absences of goal-scoring veteran Marian Gaborik and top scorer Jeff Carter, who will be out for several months while recovering from a cut on his leg.

Captain Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown are enjoying remarkable bounce-back offensive seasons while skating on Los Angeles' top line along with speedy rookie Alex Iafallo, who surprised the team by winning an NHL roster spot in training camp and keeping it with steady play. Iafallo's emergence contributed directly to Cammalleri's reduced role, Blake said.

Iafallo and fellow youngster Adrian Kempe have secured regular roles while the Kings are off to one of the Western Conference's best starts even without Carter and Gaborik, who is back in practice during his recovery from a knee injury. Blake said he is hopeful Gaborik will return to the Los Angeles lineup by early December.

Cammalleri is returning to Alberta after two earlier stints with the Calgary Flames. He spent the past three seasons with New Jersey.

Jokinen spent the last three seasons with the Florida Panthers. He has won two Olympic medals with Finland.

Maple Leafs recall F Nikita Soshnikov
    November 14, 2017

The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled Nikita Soshnikov from the Marlies of the American Hockey League affiliate and loaned fellow forward Frederik Gauthier to the affiliate, the team announced Tuesday.

Tuesday was the deadline for the Maple Leafs to add Soshnikov to their active roster or a clause in his contract would be activated to allow him to return to the Kontinental Hockey League, TSN reported.

Soshnikov has collected five goals, seven assists and 10 penalty minutes in 14 games with the Marlies this season. The 24-year-old signed a three-year entry-level contract in March 2015 that included the above clause.

Soshnikov recorded seven goals and as many assists in 67 career contests with the Maple Leafs.

Gauthier was recalled by the Maple Leafs last Tuesday, but did not skate in any games for the NHL club. The 22-year-old has collected two assists in eight games with the Marlies this season.

Gauthier was selected by the Maple Leafs with the 21st overall pick of the 2013 NHL draft.

NHL roundup: Wild's Dubnyk records third straight shutout
    November 15, 2017

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Goalie Devan Dubnyk's career- and franchise-record shutout streak continued on Tuesday as the Minnesota Wild beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0.

Dubnyk stopped all 30 shots he faced for his third consecutive shutout, running his streak without giving up a goal to 195:05. Dubnyk has now stopped the past 106 shots he has faced.

Left winger Nino Niederreiter scored on Minnesota's first shot of the game. Eric Staal and Jason Zucker added empty-net goals as the Wild ran their winning streak to three in a row.

Niederreiter, playing in his 400th career NHL game, ripped a low wrist shot past Elliott just 12 seconds into the game. Zucker was on the ice for the goal, but did not score it, breaking a streak of six straight Minnesota goals he had scored over the previous three games.

    Oilers 8, Golden Knights 2

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid each scored twice in Edmonton's easy victory over Vegas.

Oscar Klefbom, Patrick Maroon, Matt Benning and Mark Letestu added goals as the lowest-scoring team in the NHL erupted for a season-high goal total in winning at home for only the fourth time in 10 games. Cam Talbot made 22 saves for the Oilers.

The Knights came into Edmonton with only two wins in their previous seven games (2-4-1) and their No. 4 goaltender Maxime Lagace, who gave up seven goals on 29 shots. Junior goalie Dylan Ferguson, on an emergency call-up, allowed a goal and made a save in the last nine minutes.

    Penguins 5, Sabres 4 (OT)

PITTSBURGH -- Conor Sheary scored his second goal of the game 16 seconds into overtime as Pittsburgh continued its domination of Buffalo.

The Penguins have a 13-game point streak against the Sabres, who have not won against Pittsburgh since April 23, 2013. Sidney Crosby ended an 11-game goal drought, while Phil Kessel and Patrick Hornqvist also scored for the Penguins. Matt Murray made 28 saves.

Jack Eichel halted an eight-game goal drought for Buffalo. Sam Reinhart had a goal and two assists, and Evander Kane and Benoit Pouliot also scored for the Sabres. Robin Lehner stopped 40 shots.

    Predators 6, Capitals 3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Filip Forsberg scored his 100th career goal as part of Nashville's four-goal second period in its fifth straight victory.

Forsberg snapped a five-game goal-less drought on a wrister that hit off a defender's skate and skittered by Braden Holtby at 6:45 for his ninth goal. It occurred 17 seconds after Alex Chiasson tied the score at 2 with a sizzling one-timer for his second goal of the year.

The teams combined for five goals in a 4:52 stretch of the period, with Washington's T.J. Oshie netting two to bring the Capitals within 4-3. Miikka Salomaki and Mattias Ekholm, though, restored control for the Predators.

Blue Jackets 2, Canadiens 1 (OT)

MONTREAL -- Zach Werenski's goal at 1:09 of overtime gave Columbus a victory over Montreal.

Josh Anderson also scored for the Blue Jackets and Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves, including a pair of spectacular ones. Columbus has won consecutive games for the first time since Nov. 2 and were 0-3-1 before defeating Detroit in a shootout Saturday.

Paul Byron scored for the Canadiens and Charlie Lindgren made 23 saves.

    Panthers 4, Stars 3 (SO)

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Aleksander Barkov and Vincent Trocheck scored in the shootout to lift Florida over Dallas.

Jonathan Huberdeau, who missed practice Monday because of an illness, scored two power-play goals for the Panthers. Roberto Luongo, Florida's 38-year-old goalie who is fourth on the NHL career wins list with 456, made 40 saves.

Jamie Benn scored twice for the Stars, who have lost four of their past six games. Alexander Radulov picked up two assists and has at least one point in nine consecutive games.

    Jets 4, Coyotes 1

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Connor Hellebuyck stopped 33 shots as Winnipeg defeated Arizona.

Andrew Copp, Joel Armia, Bryan Little and Adam Lowry scored for the Jets, who won for the third time in four games.

Alex Goligoski scored for the Coyotes (2-15-3), who have not won in regulation this season. Antti Raanta stopped 10 of 13 shots before giving way to Scott Wedgewood, who stopped 16 of 17 for Arizona.

NHL roundup: Lightning stay hot, rout Stars
    November 16, 2017

TAMPA, Fla. -- In a battle of the NHL's top two power plays, the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning managed to score on both Thursday night, getting a power-play and short-handed goal en route to a 6-1 victory over the Dallas Stars at Amalie Arena.

Steven Stamkos scored twice and goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy (27 saves) outplayed former Tampa Bay teammate Ben Bishop, who gave up six goals in his return to Tampa, the most he has allowed since he was traded away last spring.

Tampa Bay (15-2-2) continued its dominating play, now 6-0-1 in its last seven games, starting with a power-play goal from Stamkos 47 seconds into the second period. He added an even-strength goal in the third period, giving him 10 goals for the season.

The final tally came from Nikita Kucherov, who extended his NHL lead with his 17th goal with 6:08 left. Stamkos added two assists, and leads the league with 35 points.

    Wild 6, Predators 4

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Jason Zucker's backhand shot with 2:55 remaining in the third period completed a crazy comeback as Minnesota won its fourth in a row and snapped Nashville's five-game winning streak.

The Wild trailed 4-2 with seven minutes to play before Jared Spurgeon and Eric Staal scored to tie the game, and Zucker eventually won it. Zucker has eight goals in his last five games.

Spurgeon added an empty-net goal from the far blue line with 67 seconds left. Matt Dumba and Nino Niederreiter also scored for Minnesota. Devin Dubnyk, who recorded shutouts in his three previous games, made 26 saves for the Wild.

    Penguins 3, Senators 1

OTTAWA -- Pittsburgh scored twice in the second period and held on to defeat Ottawa in a rematch of last spring's Eastern Conference finalists.

Patric Hornqvist, Jake Guentzel and Riley Sheehan scored, and Matt Murray made 21 saves for the Penguins. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored and Craig Anderson stopped 26 shots for the Senators.

Pageau broke Murray's shutout bid with 9:31 left in the third. Sheehan snuffed out any chance of a comeback when he took a pass from Sidney Crosby and scored into an empty net with 31 seconds left.

Maple Leafs 1, Devils 0 (OT)

TORONTO -- William Nylander scored with 2.2 seconds left in overtime as Toronto defeated New Jersey for its fifth straight victory.

After the teams slogged through three periods without a goal, the Devils had a power play when the Maple Leafs' Jake Gardiner was penalized for interference at 42 seconds of the overtime period. Toronto killed off the penalty, but New Jersey continued to dominate until Nylander took his shot from the high slot that ended the game for his fourth goal of the season.

The Maple Leafs' Frederik Andersen stopped 42 shots while Cory Schneider made 24 saves for the Devils.

    Coyotes 5, Canadiens 4

MONTREAL -- Christian Fischer scored the game-winning goal with 9:50 left as Arizona defeated Montreal for its first regulation victory of the season.

Christian Dvorak, Brad Richardson, Tobias Rieder and Derek Stepan also scored for the Coyotes (3-15-3). Antti Raanta stopped 33 shots for Arizona.

Brendan Gallagher, Paul Byron, Joe Morrow and Shea Weber scored for the Canadiens. Charlie Lindgren made 27 saves for Montreal.

    Avalanche 6, Capitals 2

DENVER -- Gabriel Landeskog scored three goals -- one on a penalty shot -- for his first career hat trick, and Colorado beat Washington.

Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and four assists, Mikko Rantanen had a goal and three assists and Semyon Varlamov stopped 28 shots for the Avalanche. Colin Wilson scored his first goal for Colorado.

Sam Girard, the 19-year-old defenseman acquired from Nashville in the three-way trade for Matt Duchene, had an assist. Center Vladislav Kamenev, also from Nashville, made his Avalanche debut before leaving with a broken arm in the second period.

    Blues 4, Oilers 1

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Brayden Schenn scored twice as St. Louis rebounded from losing back-to-back games for the first time this season by defeating Edmonton.

Vladimir Sobotka (short-handed) and Alex Steen also scored for the Blues. Jake Allen stopped 29 shots for St. Louis.

Ryan Strome scored for the Oilers while Cam Talbot made 35 saves for the Oilers. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had an assist, giving him 12 points in the last 11 games.

    Jets 3, Flyers 2 (SO)

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Mark Scheifele, Patrik Laine and Bryan Little scored in the shootout as Winnipeg defeated Philadelphia.

Scheifele pulled the Jets even with 49 seconds to play in regulation, converting a goalmouth feed from captain Blake Wheeler.

The Flyers got a couple quick goals in the first period from Jakub Voracek and Sean Couturier, and for the next two-and-a-half periods, it looked like the work of their goaltender Brian Elliot was going to be enough to halt a two-game losing streak.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31 shots for the win while Elliot made 30 saves. Mathieu Perreault, who was back in the lineup after missing a dozen games, scored the first marker for the Jets.

    Islanders 6, Hurricanes 4

NEW YORK -- Johnny Boychuk scored the tiebreaking goal with 4:25 left to cap a wild back-and-forth affair and lift New York over Carolina.

The Islanders' Jordan Eberle scored an empty-netter with 1:18 left. Mathew Barzal, Cal Clutterbuck, Nick Leddy and Josh Bailey also scored for New York while Thomas Greiss recorded 28 saves.

Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanifin and Sebastian Aho also scored for the Hurricanes. Scott Darling made 30 saves.

In the Crease - Week 7
    November 15, 2017

    STREAKY TEAMS

Wins and Losses Streak Over/Under Streak

Los Angeles 0-3-1 past four games at home Colorado Over 9-0-0 past nine overall

Tampa Bay 5-0-1 past six games overall Columbus Under 4-0-0 past four overall

Vancouver 6-3-0 past nine road games Vancouver Under 6-2-0 past eight overall

    Mile High...REAL High

The Colorado Avalanche are in the midst of a 9-0 'over' run, as their games have been end to end lately. They have three or more goals in six straight games, averaging 4.4 goals per game during the span. They're also allowing 4.2 goals per game over the past 10 outings, so it's been an avalanche of cash for total bettors playing Colorado lately. With games on deck against Washington, Nashville, Detroit, Dallas, Minnesota, Calgary and Winnipeg, it looks like the good times could continue to roll.

    Eight Is Enough

The Edmonton Oilers entered Tuesday's game against expansion Vegas as the lowest scoring team in the NHL. That's completely unacceptable with the talent on that club. They stepped up in a big way against the Golden Knights, posting an eight-spot, and Connor McDavid came alive with a pair of goals and three points. They entered the game with a total of eight goals over their past four outings combined. This could be the awakening hockey fans have been waiting to see from the Oilers, who were picked by some to go deep into the playoffs.

    Looking Ahead

    Wednesday, November 15

There are just three games on the NHL slate on Wednesday, but some interesting matchups. The Flames roll into the Motor City to battle the Red Wings, but they're down to backup goaltender Eddie Lack, with veteran Mike Smith not along for the start of the six-game, 11-day road trip. Calgary is 5-1 over their past six games, and 4-1 in the past five outings. In addition, they're 4-0 in their past four against Eastern Conference teams, and 20-6 in their past 26 against teams with a losing overall record. The Red Wings are the completely opposite lately, going 1-4 in their past five at home, while winning just four of their past 13 overall. While the Flames have won five of the past six overall, the home team has won four of their past five in the series. The 'over' is 2-0-2 in the past four, while going 11-4-1 in the past 16 meetings in Detroit.

It's a battle of .500 teams when the Bruins and Ducks battle on 'The Pond'. Boston heads in with just one win over the past five overall, and no victories in the past four on the road. However, they're 11-4 in their past 15 against Pacific Division foes, and 4-1 in their past five against Western Conference squads. The Ducks have struggles with injuries to date, and they're just 1-5 in their past six, and 1-4 in the past five at home. So something's gotta give, right? Well, Anaheim has won four straight at home in SoCal against the B's, and seven stragiht meetings overall.

    Thursday, November 16

The Hurricanes head north to Brooklyn to tangle with the Islanders. Battles on the island have worked out well for the Canes, as they're 8-2 in their past 10 trips to Brooklyn, and the road team has cashed in four straight in this series. In addition, the over has cashed in eight of the past 11 battles at Barclays, and 26 of the past 37 in this series. The over is 9-2 in Carolina's past 11 against teams with a winning record, too, while going 9-2 in New York's past 11 overall, and 4-1 in their past five at home.

The Blues head to Northern Alberta to tangle with the Oilers. St. Louis has won seven of their past 10 games overall, while going 8-3 in their past 11 battles against Pacific Division opponents. And, for what it's worth, they're 8-2 in their past 10 appearances on Thursday. For the Oilers, they're an impressive 6-1 in their past seven against Central Division opponents, and 23-10 in their past 33 against Western Conference teams. The difference in this one might be head-to-head trends. St. Louis has dominated this series, winning 19 of the past 26 overall, including six of their past eight trips to Edmonton. The under has hit in five of the past seven.

    Friday, November 17

There are just two games on the slate Friday, but the Rangers and Blue Jackets game should be quite interesting. It's already the third meeting of the season between these sides, with the Blueshirts winning 5-3 at MSG on Nov. 6 in the most recent meeting, and the Blue Jackets taking it 3-1 on Oct. 13 in the first meeting in C-Bus. Last season the Jackets nipped the Rangers 3-2 in the season series, and the final four meetings saw the road team come away with two points. The 'over' has cashed in six of the past eight meetings, too.

    Saturday, November 18

The Saturday slate features five matinee games, including Calgary-Philadelphia, Edmonton-Dallas, Arizona-Ottawa, New Jersey-Winnipeg and Florida-Los Angeles. Generally afternoon games trend to the 'under' due to tired legs, but the fact there are five teams in the lower half in the NHL in scoring, including the 31st-ranked scoring team (Oilers), 25th (Coyotes), 19th (Stars), 18th (Flames) and 16th (Flyers), should mean low-scoring results.

The Islanders will battle the Lightning in Central Florida, and if last season is any indication it might be a long night for the visitors. Tampa Bay went 3-0 against the Islanders last season, and they won by a combined score of 14-2. Tampa Bay has won nine of their past 11 at home heading into Thursday's game, so it could be more of the same for the Isles. They have held their head above water away from home this season, however, going 4-4 over their past eight, averaging 3.4 goals per game during the stretch.

The Avalanche and Predators tangle in the Music City on Saturday night. Nashville already has one home win under their belt against Colorado this season, 4-1 back on Oct. 17. The Predators have posted a respectable 5-1-0-1 record in seven games at home this season, while Colorado is 3-6 in nine games away from the Mile High City. As managed previously, the Avalanche enter Wednesday with nine consecutive 'over' results, and the 'over' has cashed in four ofthe past five for the Preds. While the 'under' hit in that early meeting in Nashville, the 'over' is 3-0 in the past three home games for the Predators.
