A question for Horse Handicappers

I bet a horse to show for five dollars. It showed and the payout was suppossedly 2 dollars and change. But I only received one dollar. What is up with that?

on a show bet if it paid 2.50 you get 50 cent for every 2.00 you bet which you would have won .75 cents plus your 5.00 back

yeah but it makes a big difference if you have like 20 to win and the horse pays 5 to win you make 50 dollars and risk 20 show bets are hard to make alot of $$$$$ but very safe bets
