Houston Astros (Clemens) at Chicago Cubs (Clement) 2:20 PM ET

Chicago Cubs (Clement) -105 (2 Units)

Matt Clement returns home after a rough outing on the road. He heavily favors pitching at Wrigley Field, both this year and throughout his career. He is 5-1 with a 1.91 ERA at home this season compared to a 1-2 record and a 5.16 ERA on the road. Opposing hitter are batting just .156 against him at home. He is 22-15 with a 3.66 ERA in his career at Wrigley including a 16-6 record the last 2 seasons. This year he has allowed 1 run or less 5 times, with 4 of those being pitched at home. His control was off in his last outing as he tied a major-league record by hitting three batters in the same inning, which led to four runs. Clement also threw a wild pitch against pitcher Kip Wells, a ball that zipped behind his back, scoring the first run. Control usually isn’t an issue with him and we don’t expect that to be a problem here. Roger Clemens takes the hill on the road for just the 4th time this season and so far the results have been mixed. He pitched well in his first road start with the Astros against the Cardinals but he has allowed 10 runs over 10.2 innings in his last 2 on the road. Despite 2 good home starts sandwiched around that debacle at Cincinnati, Houston is 0-3 his last 3 starts after starting the season a perfect 7-0. Part of his road problems may have to do with the fact that he isn’t used to life on the road. He has traveled on only 3 road trips this season since he is allowed to remain at home when he is not scheduled to pitch. With Clemens still not losing a decision this season, we get excellent value in this number.
